1. I have made significant progress in my digital story. My script is completed. When I read and shared my script, I ensured it followed a logical plot progression that engaged the reader. I also developed my characters through dialogue and imagery. Currently, I am working on putting the script with the video and audio. The story table was a helpful tool in arranging all of my ideas; I am creating or finding specific images that will enhance my digital story’s visual appearance. I have created and added most elements of my digital story, and I only have a few minor adjustments until I feel that it is ready to publish. I do not believe that I need assistance with anything. I will review completed digital stories to compare how mine looks to others to ensure I am on the right track before I am ready for publishing and presenting.
2. After reviewing the current resources, I am going with Canva. Canva is accessible and I am familiar with how to use and implement most of the tools that it has to offer. Having a school district email account allows me access to certain paid features that I could not access on other platforms. Canva will offer the most user-friendly approach for my students when I introduce their own digital stories since they will also be familiar with the digital platform. Learning a new digital tool while completing a rigorous activity can be stressful, so I want to ensure both the students and I have some background knowledge on the digital platform and how to maneuver its features.
3. The audience for my story could be anyone. However, I specifically wrote my story for my high school English students. My story highlight parts of my culture as an example for their work digital stories. I believe that they will see and understand a part of me that they have yet to see and in sharing my story, I hope that they can tell stories from their own experience with their culture.
In writing this story, I have developed the ability to be a better storyteller. The story map and story core examples helped me reflect on the events in my story and develop an appropriate delivery that would be engaging and meaningful to my audience. I also developed some technological skills in the creation of my digital story. I had previous knowledge in constructing videos with some audio, however, this project has challenged me to move beyond my skills and learn and explore new technology for creating engaging content.
Today’s students are consumed with digital stories in their daily lives, whether it be TikTok, Instagram reels, or YouTube. With the creation of digital stories, as teachers, we are making students' learning engaging and authentic to their everyday lives. When presenting students with a digital story project, we are creating real-world experiences and skills that they can use in their everyday lives and future careers and endeavors.
Danna, it sounds like you have made great progress on your story. Using Canva is a great choice, especially since both you and your students are familiar with it. I am excited to see the final product.
ReplyDeleteDanna,
ReplyDeleteGreat idea leveraging those extra free features in Canva with your school account. Tailoring the story for use with your students is also nice to create some longevity for the project.
